The Problem with CBD Dosage
The biggest problem with CBD dosing is that there are no firm guidelines. Unlike our products, here at Sweet Drop, many CBD products don’t have a consistent level of CBD or they offer the complete cannabinoid profile, not specifically CBD.
Dosing can be difficult because of this, but there are some general guidelines.
Patience is Needed
There is no evidence that CBD is harmful, so starting out with a low dose will work.
The key is to make sure that you’re giving it time to work. Each time you try a new dose, you need to give it two weeks. After two weeks, if you haven’t seen a positive effect, change the dose. Wait another two weeks and gauge where you’re at. Decide if you want to change doses again.
Keep a CBD journal. This isn’t a “Dear Diary” type journal. I can be a small book you keep next to your CBD and track how your feeling each day. This can include aches, pains, sleep patterns, menstruation and cramps, and more.
The CBD journal will allow you to keep track of where you’re at and how you’re feeling. When you sit down to review the past two weeks to look at the dose, you’ll have a contemporaneous record.
Reasons are Important
There are as many reasons to take CBD as there are people taking it. Why you’re taking it is going to be a guide to how much to take.
The major reasons are:
- General health
- Muscle spasms
- Hearth health
There is a lot of evidence that CBD works on neurological disorders, like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer's and various types of epilepsy. If you're going to try to use CBD for these, consult a physician.
The General Approach
Starting to take CBD, you should read the label. If you can check the manufacturer's website for guidelines, that might help. Many won’t give specific advice because that might be construed as medical advice by the FDA.
For general health, taking 2.5 to 15 mg of CBD per days should work. Note, we said CBD. This doesn’t include carrier oils and other ingredients.
For pain and other discomforts, 2.5 to 20 mg per should work. Start small. Often a low dose is more effective than a higher dose.
Sleep issues require a little more power, 40 to 160 mg of CBD per day. You will likely notice a big difference right away. Within a night or two, you’ll be falling asleep faster and sleeping better.
The Body Weight Approach
Most medicines are dosed by body weight. CBD can be no different.
Taking your current body weight, you can do 1 to 6 mg per 10 pounds of body weight. For a 200 pound man, that 20 to 120 mg per day.
The key to the body weight system is that it allows you to track your weight as well. There’s some evidence that CBD oil helps you lose weight.
The Simple Approach
The easiest approach is to simply look on the bottle. At Sweet Drop, we help you with some ideas on the bottle. We also have a dropper that allows you precise measurement. Most droppers have no markings for dose.
No matter what you do, track your CBD usage and use as little as needed. As we said earlier, often, less is more when it comes to CBD.
