CBD for skin is all the rage. You can find it everywhere and in everything. So the real question is: Does CBD work for keeping skin healthy and youthful?
The answer is, like every answer related to anything new, we need more study, but the results so far look promising.
What is CBD oil?
Made from hemp, CBD or cannabidiol, is one of 113 cannabinoids created by the plant. It’s a non-psychoactive compound, so it doesn't get you high. It’s also legal in all 50 states, because the 2018 Farm Bill legalized industrial hemp production.
CBD is not the same thing as hemp oil. CBD is a compound found in the leaves and twigs of the plant, where hemp oil is made from the seeds. Hemp oil is more like a traditional plant oil, like canola, except much higher in Omega-3, 6, and 9. While hemp oil is very good for you, it’s different from CBD and should be used differently.
What does CBD do for the skin?
CBD oil has two major effects that seem to help skin most: anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power.
Anti-inflammatory - CBD’s ability to reduce inflammation make it ideal for acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and more. It seems to be able to reduce inflammation, both when taken internally and when applied topically. In the case of all skin disorders or even anti-aging efforts, both delivery methods seem to be the way to go.
Antioxidant - CBD appears to help reverse aging by reducing damage through its antioxidant powers. Research has begun to show that it can visibly reduce lines and wrinkles. Part of this is likely due to the simple fact that the person is moisturizing, but the effects last longer than conventional moisturizers. Its effects are similar to other antioxidant creams on the market, so it’s not the only or the best choice, but it’s one to consider.
CBD for sensitive skin
One area where CBD excels is in helping with sensitive skin. People whose skin is often overwhelmed by conventional moisturizers and treatments have found that CBD is a great way to treat their skin disorders without harsh chemicals.
What CBD oil to use?
There are lots of options in the world of skin care.
For ingestion, the most effective way is to take CBD as drops. It enters the bloodstream more quickly and less is lost in the digestive process.
On the skin, it’s important to get CBD that’s extracted properly and then put into a carrier oil that’s good for the skin. In the case of Sweet Drop, we use MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil that’s also anti inflammatory and is good for the heart.
The Bottom Line
CBD appears to have lots of powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can make skin look and feel healthier. Is it the only thing in the world that can do it? Probably not, but when taken internally, there are other benefits that CBD offers, like anti-anxiety and pain reduction, that might make it a great choice part of your overall skin and health regimen.
Many people swear by CBD and have found it to be the perfect addition to their skin care regimen. There are few, if any side effects, and it appears to be good for you, so go for it. Nothing bad can happen.
